Hi
We have opened a pizza shop, we sold the old oven which said it was 3 phase, and purchased a new 3 phase oven.
Not being a real sparky, I saw the 3 lines and an earth and assumed that every thing was ok. Until I had some one to install it for me,then found that it didn't work, due to us having 2 phase split. So in short we converted the oven to run on single phased, our neighbor upstairs, has her lights flicker, Power Networks says it the oven doing it, when they did a test in out other power outlets when the oven reaches full temperature, we lost 10 volts. Which they think this is the cause of the flickering lights.
They are saying we have to either cease using it or get 3 phase i, which they have quoted ÂŁ34,000, is there anything we can do to solve the problem, I am all ears.
thanks

I would have thought if gas was available it would have been the oven of choice in the first place but as the OP already in this situe maybe im wrong :shocked3:

No gas is run to the shop, they estimated at first 2.5 - 10k to install it.
Now I may have to sell it and get gas in.
Can you use a phase converter with elements?

Using a motor Inverter would require a discussion with various manufacturers and tech support...(note! it may not be a possibilty) this would be something i do and look into but as this is a forum for free advice this is where i cut my input and would normally charge for my time.... ive given guidence as to possible options its really down to you to source a electrical engineer local to yourself to advice and possibly design a solution if plausable one exists
..

I think you would do what everyone is saying here, suck it up and get a single phase oven to do the job and get a qualified electrician in to connect it up, I have a friend who runs a cafe near me and he is always getting equipment for me to install, all bought cheap of course, and there's a reason for that

My question before was
Can you use elements on a phase converter?
Now I know we can use it on motors, as we have done that in the past, the guy for this is Dave at Drives Direct, he knows his stuff, but he is pricey.

Your missing my point ..... its theoretically possible in my mind but i cant give you a definitive answer as i would need to speak to tech' of chosen drive manufacturers and could include a software change to adapt but then again it may not be a viable option ... i put it out there as an open comment for others to ponder too... for me to get you definate answers would need me to invest a good deal of my time and possible rig a test kit to see if it works in the real world as this is just free advice on a forum i wont be doing that as its chargeable time in the real world... many other issues will need to be taken into account too as mentioned before like kva allowance and design load of whole installation none of which we know....we can only point you in directions on here we cant give you solutions regarding your issue well except the obvious ones already highlighted....
Try not to focus on my suggestion as if it was a possibility it would need alot of looking into and a trilal set up which all would require paying for just to find it dosn't work as you would need... this is what i tend to do .. companies employ me to solve issues by investing in my time etc... if 1 out of 3 projects work the company can usually see big returns and it easily covers any failed trials....
Your situe is really looking for a solid solution which no easy options jump out and thus would require an onsite visit and review.

Just be careful here - to me that rating plate looks all to cock. The plate says 27kW, 3 phase, 220Volts, 74Amps. At 220V, 27kW will hoover up more than 120Amps. I would speculate the 220V refers to the 3phase voltage (as has already been suggested) and the 74Amps refers to the current per phase - that would pan out about right. I'm guessing the 6 elements are each 120V and 4.5kW and can probably be wired either 2 per phase in parallel for North American operation, or 2 per phase in series for European operation.

I also doubt the motors are 3-phase, so it should be convertable to single phase operation, if you can find a large enough supply.

I note it's CE marked, so is clearly engineered for European use.

Given that the manufacturer's details are all there, why not contact the cowboys in Wichita and ask for details. Unlike the UK and Europe, I find most US companies still have a commendable culture of willingly providing after sales support and help.
