Flakey

Hi guys
Ive got a 2 way light but need to replace one of the switch's.
what i would like to know is this. if the switch closest to the supply has the live going to its common but thyere is no other switch on the other side should the first switch still be able to turn the light on or does it still need to feed switch 2 . i believe that switch 2 common goes to the light fitting based on my basic logic

I really hope that i am making sense as im a bit new to this but any help would help me in this senario

Cheers

Flakey:)

there will be a single live feed in common at one switch and then the switch wire outto the light in the common on the other switch, there will also be a twin cable in L1 & L2 linking the two switches. just replace the switches as yo found them and do the right tests and your laughing

Not much sense mate!

If you are replacing a switch just fit the new one the same as the one you take off. Don't forget to mark the cables and write down where they connect before taking the old switch off!

I think what your saying is if its a 2 way and one of them is taken out will the light still function from the first swtich, no it wouldn't.

Is that what you are asking?

I think the live feed from the CU goes into one of the commons and then the other common goes to the light, while the big strapping strappers link the two switches. Hence if you ripped one of the switces out the intact one would not do anything, but you could just change it to a 1 way.

Furthermore, as the left hand switch will currently not do anything, I'd try the loose brown in here:
