Hi. All.

I have a trasnformer that takes 220v from wall and outputs 20 amp 5v to a string of leds.

I want to put a switch beetwen the wall and transformer. Could a regular lamp switch do it? or should a put a 20 amp switch?

The 20 amps is what the load will take from the secondary of the transformer. The input current will be much much less.

Remember, the transformer power in will be roughly the same as the power out, ignoring the various losses. So you can use Ohms law and get a rough idea of the input power, and therefore what the rating of the switch needs to be.

A switch conglomerate with the load it is going to switch

The input power will be 120-150VA i.e. less than an amp at 220V. But you should allow for inrush (surge at switch-on) and fit a switch with higher rating than 1A. In the absence of more detailed information, I would usually choose a part rated at 5A or 10A for this application to ensure it is tough enough to withstand the inrush.
