Afternoon everybody,

Having survived 2020 (so far) with Covid and everything else I've had going on (and they say the stiff upper lip of the Brits is dying out) I'll be embarking on a TS4U course in the new year and also relocating to Staffordshire.

I wondered if there is much demand for apprentices in their 30s in that part of the world.

Obviously I wont be walking out of that classroom after 23 days and setting up on my own but I wondered what the consensus is RE next steps?

Is there a market for apprentices who have self funded part of their development?

Do certain firms prefer apprentices that are fresh from school/college?

Is Labouring for a sparky the best way to go?

All input welcome.

Lee

do the course and try to get practical experience with an electrician, as a mate. after a year or 2, then you may feel confident enough to go alone, join niceic or 1 of the others.

Thanks for your input, when it comes to looking for roles as a mate is it a case of calling round and asking the question ?

or is there a website I should register on specific to trades mates?

try indeed for mates jobs. if you register they send you job vacancies by email. also ask around local electricians if they need a helping hand on occasion. but never offer to work for free.

OK brill, I'll give indeed a whirl - Im hoping to secure something by the end of the financial year even if it is part time helping out here and there. My new house is going to need a full rewire so I was thinking that I could labour for whoever does it as an alternative to undertaking the work myself and having it assessed.

Undecided right now but will see how things pan out over the next 10-12 weeks.

Thanks Again :)

do you think you are competent to do your rewire, testing excluded. if so you could involve a local sparks to oversee your work and commission it. alternative is to pay BC approx. £300 before you start.

I guess I will see how I feel when I get in the property. I expect to feel up to it when the time comes but you never know do you.

I really appreciate your input :)
