Morning guys. On my way to work today and iv got to install basic conduit on walls. Basic being one length with T pieces. And at one end a couple of bends.

Every electrician has different tricks with installing conduit (or other types of containment). I would appreiciate some tips :) iv worked with conduit before but its not something i work with on a daily basis :)

Cheers!

Always do your bubbles before any other set or bend and and when return stalks when doing a bend, bend upwards rather than down when stalks are greater than 34" as you won't get a full bend because of the former to floor clearance. When doing 25mm use a peice of iron pipe longer than the lever to gain leverage, unless your doing it everyday or your tall and strong. Always thread no more than the depth of the dies and work outside whenever you can.

one thing i always used to do, bearing in mind that i'm no expert, just enough to get by: rather than do all that measuring to ensure the bend is spot on and each end reaches the trunking, whatever, within 3mm, gauge it 6" too long, then offer it up, mark, cut , re-thread.

Have not used metal conduit for years, mainly PVC here but what little metal I do install I cant get to grips with the floor bender, do you guys still use the Hillmore tripod pipe vice and bender

nothing in this world is better than a hilmore (for bending steel conduit, that is. it's useless at pouring beer)

Hope your not talking about inspection T's?? Those bloody things can and often do, strip the insulation of singles before you know it. Inspection elbows and T's are generally banned on any sort of prestige project these day's!! lol!!

there should be a mark on the bender to line up with the mark on conduit for the back off the bend.

mark, put in and bend and then remeasure so you get used to it before you start proper.

or do what tell does and give yourself a couple inches over then cut down

20mm conduit measure to back of bend, minus 50mm, line new mark up with front of former and bend. Perfect bend every time no cutting and re threading. I'm amazed at how many people do not use this method!

Off topic but asked labourer, "what are you like at making runners" the other day. He said, "Weve got some plastic cable runners upstairs". Should have let him carry on and make loads of cable runners!

or a simple trick, put conduit in bender, grab a stub off conduit and put on bottom off conduit then use setsquare to makesure its at 90 to the conduit in bender then centre off the stubby is the centre off bend

after you have that, put a mark in black pen on bender than grab hacksaw and put a little groove in (if its new or if its old it will probably have the marking's already

I see that many markings on pipe vices that I never know what is what! Everyone has their own methods I suppose.
