Phone your local college tomorrow morning 9am sharp, they are probably enrolling this week and places go quickly. You might just be in time, but you will probably need a 'suitability' interview first.

The 2330 course is gone, last september was the last chance to start at level 2. The new electrical instalation course is the 2357 which incorporates the NVQ and the 2330 in a 2 or 3 year course but you must be working for a company to begin this course.

the 2330 is not dead yet - I know this because I have just enrolled to do it at my local college starting in September. It was supposed to be superceded by the 2357 but the bods who define the new course did not have it ready on time. All the more reason for anyone over 24 yrs old to enrol on a 2330 course asap.

I didnt know that, my old college told my mate he couldnt do the electricians course because he was not working for a company and the 2330 was over, that was in June. Sounds like there has been some changes since then

I just enroled on my 2330 level 2 as well, enroled last friday and started this monday, I currently do not work in this field so i do think that i will struggle to gain employment within a company to begin my level 3 when the time comes.

Can the level 3 definitely be completed if i start the level 2 now?

Ive been offered a place on the 2330 l2 but am concerned the l3 would have been scrapped by then?

Anyone clarify this...

i completed my 2330 level 2 in july and im due to start level 3 next week at Uxbridge College.
I dont know if this will clarify it enough for you but i was told as long as you have already started level 2 or been offered to start it then the college you are attending should be able to follow the course through till you are finished so i suggest you ask your college if you are concerned.

The advice says that L2 or L3 2330 achievements willl be recognised in the new 2357, critically it says 'in some way' If you read the course scope for the 2357 there are beefed up sections on H&S and proceedures etc that are not in the existing 2330. As I am not in a rush I am going to hang on for the 2357 as I dont want to do the 2330 and find out I then need to do an additional conversion module or two to complete the bits of the 2357 that I have not covered, and possibly have to pay for these as well. I am guessing that this is what might happen, but as I am not in a rush I don't need to take the risk.

What you say makes sense Phsye.

My problem is that as i am not 'working in the industry', i may struggle to get on the 2357.

Ive been offered a place on the 2330 l2 starting next week and im thinking if i dont do it i may regret it...

It sounds like we are in different situations, I am really not in a hurry so it makes sense for me to do nothing. However, enrolling on a course and being in the process of learning will help to demonstrate to a contractor that you are serious, it sounds like that is your main priority so my advice would be to focus on getting that asap. Don't let the difference in scope of two courses and some vague C&G announcement wording put you off your goal!

Sorry if I made you panic!

Alot of lads in my 2330 l3 class are switching over to 2357, all u need is to say ur self employed and have liability insurance and u get the course for free. Then some of the lads are just going round with proper sparkys taking the pictures to say they've done the work. Seems there's a big mistake C&G never planned for.
