Hello just after any info people can give really I'm 23 and currently a Builder but have been looking into extra training. I talked to my local college and I can enroll on the city and guilds 2330 part time in September if I will pay for it myself. But from reading online I noticed its being withdrawn? Where would it leave me at the end of the 2 years would I be able to further it. Ideally in the future I'd like to be fully qualified. Also how does it work with the nvq as I'd like to gain that also I could probably get the experience but assume I'll have to pay for it seperate? Thanks!

Have you got any contacts in the trade spark wise? Would be a good idea to get some now if you can, get on the new nvq 2356 and do it all at the same time as working alongside a spark. You need to do the site assessments to gain a nvq. It is slow at the minute though so ask everyone you know about local sparks and try to get your foot in the door there.

i would not consider joining any electrical course to qualify as a spark until you can be guaranteed a job/placement with an electrician or electrical company.
i eventually persuaded my local college after 3 years trying to get on the 2330 course i excelled in all my results 3 years after qualifying still cannot get a job with any company as they want to see experience with working for a company, i was self taught i have a lot of knowledge but this seems to hold me back in getting employment and i was self funded as well, still paying the credit card bill for it now and all i have to show for it is a few city and guild certificates!. if you can get work with a spark even part time then go for it otherwise stay were you are!

Thanks for the advice people what's been said does make sense. The sparks I know aren't really in a position to need anyone and say the amount of qualified people asking for work is amazing. As much as I'd like to be able to train in my own time the way it is does make sense I think starting at the bottom is the only way to go I think like anything hands on experience with someone that can tell you where your going wrong in invaluable. Cheers people and I'll keep looking!
