hi
has anyone got info on the practical exam i.e (diagrams / method statements / risk assessments/ or a layout of the installation would really be appreciated
It varies from one college to the next. Which college are you doing it at? You might be lucky and another member has done the exam at the same college.
Mine involved a ring, 3-way lighting & a cooker switch w/socket outlet. Make sure you know what size cables you need - SWA, size of bonding conductors, size of final circuit conductors, as well as what tools etc. Read up on 3-way ligthing. I lost marks because I forgot to write clawhammer, so make sure you know
every tool you'd theoretically need - even if you don't use it. You're not using a Megger - you're using a low/high reading Ohm-meter, etc. You'll be expected to predict test results, so get used to doing that as well. Familiarise yourself with the tests that you'll be expected to do - if I remember correctly, this is R1+R2, continuity of ring conductors and IR. I can't remember anything different to that, but I'll return to this if I do.
I used my own wire strippers for the exam - the college used the adjustable type which I'm not a fan of. Speak to your tutor about what tools will be available to you, and if you usually use something different they can't stop you using it.
Hope that helps!
