OldskoolUpNorth

Hi all,

I'm on the 2357 NVQ diploma.

Struggling with one question on 303 Task A.

Q26A) Explain how materials, plant and equipment
will be delivered to site causing minimum disruption?

I answered that, items will be delivered the day before reducing idle time. WRONG!

Apparently it's more of who's going to receive the delivery, how's the time for operatives to be made available?

Never worked on a site so I have no idea.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.
Neil.

They want to hear you mention things like...... checking materials delivered on site matches the original order and that you have a stores on site that the materials can be safely kept and monitored by a storeman. All that sort of rubbish if i remember rightly when i did my NVQ.

Hi Neil, I am willing to help you out on this one as i done this many moons ago and got a tick in the box for it.

My answer was as follows -

Access points established and where necessary a method of route control if traveling onto and through the site. Suitable timings for the scheduled deliveries i.e. early mornings or late evenings to avoid congestion of commuting traffic. A daily diary showing the schedule of events for the day including key deliveries. Suitable storage areas highlighted and clear and ready for the deliveries. Availability of key plant machinery to move the deliveries to the designated standing/storage area.

Maybe this will help you out mate.

Since when do site electricians take delivery of plant equipment and materials on a site that would need such convoluted arrangements?? Sounds more like an NVQ for a contractors storeman than for an electrician, who would by the way, have no control over other sub contractors or trades activities.....

These electrical NVQ 3s, should stick to electrical skills that seem to be sadly lacking these days!!

I worked on a council site for my employer as a sub contractor and we had to take delivery of generators and cable reels and this required site machinery to move the items from the delivery bay to the storage bay. These items were very big and by no means a two or three person lift.

I see your point but if the course material is asking for an answer to this specific line of questioning, all we can do is answer it. It may not be relevent in your mindset, however i have just highlighted the realities of what can happen on site so the question in my view is valid.

Thanks for your input though.

Ah 303 A.... Not such a bad one assignment. 307 & 308 much harder...

Whilst i do agree that the courses need to stick to electrical based questions...
I believe this part of the assignment is to basically show the OPs understanding of how the site works.

Also agree that some questions maybe random to the OP but will obviously be linked to the whole assignment.

If you think 307 308 are hard 309 will be a lot harder
