i am having a real struggle deciding whether to do the 2330 level 2 or wait for the 2357??
do you need to be employed as a spark to do the 2357, im not currently and need to keep learning??
i will do it via night school

The word is .Is that you have to be employed in the industry to do the 2357

So if I was you I would jump on the 2330 as you can still do the L3 after the L2 or they will migrate you onto the 2357

hope you get on night school, our college had an 18 month waiting list for 2330. I applied dec 2007 had a course briefing dec 2008 and started learning sept 2009. Just starting 2nd year now

get started on your lv2 2330 you most likly wont be able to do the lv3 2330 as the last registration is march (so youd have to finnish your lv2 by then) but city and guilds are going to be migrating the 2330 lv2/lv3 into the new 2357 so you wont have to redo the work

Another thing to consider is that lecturers fully understand "old" courses and have all the past papers and have a good idea what will be asked in the exam. With a new course there will not be a lot of knowledge about what will be in the exam and probs only one example of a test paper, plus teething problems.

Pushrod, I am one of those lecturers and I spent my holiday reading the C&G centre guidance, Assessors guide, 2357 logbook etc so that I clearly understand the requirements for training and assessment, like I did when it was 2360 and then 2330. In further Education we learn to shift for ourselves and produce the goods whatever the Guild throw at us. We do this because we dont want to let our students down, we do care about our students achievement. Now the good news is its really the same electrical science and whether employed or self employed, you can achieve it

... and very glad to hear it too. However, if you are suggesting that a new course will run as smoothly as an old one i would suggest that you are being slightly disingenuous as you appear not to be lacking in experience.

Very glad to hear that also and if you cared to troll through my numerous past posts you would see that i am a very strong advocate of the colleges, particularly when people post on this forum talking about investing in intensive short courses. My main reason being that the vast amount of college lecturers do care about getting their students through exams and will often put themselves out to achieve that. :)

[Even though there are some who don't update their notes quite as often as they should;) Present company excluded.]

I'm a college student I have just my 204 to sit in may and my 2391 to sit in April apart from that I have passed every exam with distinction so far and my lowest score was my 2382 and although no distinction I got 92% and this is all through no small part of some very talented lecturers.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. It is good that you have had lecturers that have helped maybe even inspired, but don't forget to take pride in your own achievements. The fact that you have made 600+ posts on here bears testament to the fact that you have both interest and commitment. Well done:)

599 worth of total dribble to be fair :)

On a serious note, thank you for your kind words!.

I put in a lot of commitment and work and to be fair I do very much enjoy all sides of the trade. I do however get frustrated with so called modern teaching methods, and so called methods of management within education. The sooner the education dept realise that skill based further education is about top people with great knowledge and experience imparting this on people! The better

The problem with people learning is that you could have 4 people and they all learn in different ways and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. However, without commitment you are nowhere.

There you go, being modest again... i'm sure it is more :p ;)

Lol like it

College lecturers and very much underrated, well my lot anyhow!! Anyone reading this and considering training in Birmingham I can highly recommend Birmingham metropolitan. College/ James watt campus- management are useless but teaching staff - A1!!

Hi darking

i have been trying to get on the 2330 either lv2 and 3 or just level 3 but all college courses near me are full and not taking more on
So if i dont get on the 2330 before the end as long as i am employed or self employed i will be able to do the 2357

I am 40 and have been involved with electrical installation for 24 yrs on and off i didnt finish my apprenticeship but returned to electrics many times I am currently not employed or unemployed as i am a non professional full time carer for my mrs but want to work from home self employed and give up my carers role i cant get advice from jobcentre as they say i dont have to work and as i am a carer there is no help have to be on JSA for 6 months first
so in 2009 after trying to get help to get on a course of joke centre many times over the years to be told to old or no help
I paid for a private 6 week training course for 17th, 2393, 2377, logic full and defined scopes
I have also done a 8 week training course for the 2391-10 at bury college
the college tutor told me i only need to do the 2356 nvq lv3 to get jib status as a electrician
My aim is to set up self employed as a domestic installer and register with elecsa
but i also would like to be able to carry out small commercial work but feel i need to learn more of the scientific principles which havnt been covered in great depth on the courses i have done
I am hoping to get set up and register for the nvq before the end date but if i miss this as long as i get set up self employed would i then be eligible to register for the 2357 I have asked C&G and they say ask a centre that provides there courses
my 2391 tutor says i dont need 2330 just the nvq but they are not taking on more candidates
so my options are ltd to possibly paying for a private course on line such as delta training in preston

Can you advise me who to contact about this please

The problem is that the 2330 is being discontinued as is the 2356. Yes you can still enrol on the 2356 with colleges and with private firms such as Delta. You can do a NVQ either as employed or as some of the lads here have done, as self employed but be warned you will need a large amount of work both domestic and commercial for evidence purposes for your portfolio.

Good luck!

I did my NVQ a couple of years back now and as I was a sole trader as a mate, I was my employer, so they just let me sign both bits
