I've heard because of the big mess with the new 2357 they are considering dropping it otherwise they will have to give current students a green card through the exams!

My friends college is actually helping all it's students through the closed book exams by giving them help were it should be exam type conditions as a way of compensation for the big mess the students have been let in!

Wonder what the future will hold! I was just about to sign up for it this week swell but I'm not going to bother until I know it's safe to do so"!

I don't think they will drop 2357 but they may extend 2330 and 2356 until they sort out any mess they have with 2357. They would look really stupid just to cancel it - think of all the money and time that they have put into it as well as saying for a long time it was needed! Too much political capital involved in it for it to fail...

I would hold off for the moment if I were you, they may be bringing out an alternative to the 2357 as you need to be employed to do this (2357) qualification and it also embeds the AM2. Should be some news about this in the coming weeks. Another alternative is to go with the EAL version, loads of colleges are opting for EAL as it is much easier to assess and much much easier on the student. The problem is that City & Guilds have made this qualification a lot more difficult than it need be, another issue is that everyone seems to think that because it is City & Guilds its a better qualification when the truth is very much different. We are all too used to seeing City & Guilds as some kind of quality assurance when the fact is that EAL are much more on the ball than C & G could ever hope to be.

As electrical_stud says, they may extend the 2330 again cos this is turning into a nightmare for all involved in the 2357, lets hope they do extend it and hope that colleges start offering this again as an alternative.

an alternitive to the 2357!

that doesnt sound good! i have signed up for the 2357 like almost 3 months ago and i hope they dont drop it after all the hard work i have put in!

it is a hard qualification and the guys im training with could do with helping me alot more instead of messing me about so much, but Im hoping that its all going to be worth it in the long run!

I don't see what was so wrong with the 2330/2356/AM2 route - at least you could do the 2330 technical certificate to gain leverage to get employment as a 'mate' to do the 2356.
For those who have started the 2357 technical cert that should count towards the 2330, and the work on the NVQ3 should still be relevant.

I think they change these courses around far too much.

Very good point!

The time, effort & money would be far better spent improving the content and teaching of the existing courses instead of wasting everyone's time renumbering them etc.
Smacks of job creation for numpties in offices to me.
