Speaking to my old lecturer today, he told me the colleges are empty with the introduction of the 2357 as the qualification is only really suitable for apprentices. Summit skills have admitted it was a mistake and it is going to go back to a similar sylabus as the 2330 except with a different number.

colleges empty? i think its a good thing. it will makes us who are already qualified worth more in a few years. i also think you should be employed whilst learning, otherwise you'll end up with all the gear and no idea, being let loose into the big bad world not knowing if your doing it right or wrong as you've only ever done it in college. not the real world. i've seen a few cases of this, its frightening. they've got their 2391, but dont know how a ring works? are rough as a dogs dinner because they havent had a mentor stood behind them for 3 years showing them the proper way.

this of course is my personal opinion, im probably just bitter because the trade is getting flooded with people and driving the wages down.

I don't see why they feel the need to change the course number - they should just change the content as and when and stick to the same number (2330) so people know what it is when you tell them what you've got.
Same with the 2391.

I find it hard to believe that someone could have done 3 years at college then passed exams on testing ring finals, but still not understand how they work.
Remember a perceived 'lack' of new recruits led to the whole 'massive skills shortage' myth in the first place.
