Hi,

Just after peoples views on this one. I am nearing the end of my 2357 and have been told that not only will 'we' not be doing the 17th exam which every other course over the past few years have done as part of the course but nor will we be doing the 18th???

My issues here are why? Why should I pay extra for a course that has always been included just because i've trained to the 17th for 3 years and now the 18th is out? surely common sense and fairness would suggest that the training college would put us through one or the other as every other person has always had???? its a £250 or £400 course to get it otherwise!

thank you

You don't get the 2382 qualification as part of your NVQ. When I qualified I completed the 2330 to the 17th and then the 2357 bridging unit later on to the 17th (back then we were the first class in the country to take on the 2357 instead of the 2356). During my portfolio days I simply sat the 2382 exam (I didn't have to as I was already part qualified to the 17th, but I just wanted the piece of paper to say so). I think I paid around £80 at the time?

If you're nearly done with your 2357 you'd most likely be fine to just book the 18th exam only too, although in my capacity as a trainer I'd highly recommend you sitting a one day update course as these are very useful for people trained to the 17th and who aren't immersed in 'industry' literature.

I hear people say that they qualified to the 17th and therefore they don't need to sit the 17th exam but I think that's just a myth?

I suspect that the JIB would only accept the 2382 to have it printed on the card regardless of what edition of the regs were out when you passed the level 3.

What I’m getting at guys is that every year the college 3rd years have done the 17th edition exam as part of the course. Now we’re on the 18th crossover the college are saying ‘you’ve trained to the 17th so you’re not going to do that exam because it’s effectively out of date now but we’re also not going to put you through the 18th which is where I have the issue.
Why should I be left out of pocket? Surely the fair and sensible thing to do would be to put us through the relevant updates and then let us take the 18 edition all as part of our current course???
