Hi all.

I'm new here and am looking for some advise.

I currently work as a general builder, self employed. And have been thinking of retraining as an electrician for a while. I've been looking at doing the C&G2365 level 2&3 with Thompson Training Ltd as a distance learning and going to the centre just for the exams and practical bits. Once passed, I would do the NVQ 2357 bridging bits. Then look at doing some work with an electrician who I have worked with on site before to get the portfolio complete.

My question is, 1. have any of you had any experiences with Thompson Training and 2. am I going about it in the right way??

Hi Wes1000,

Welcome to the forums!

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I'm 36 and currently retraining to be an Electrician. As a resettlement package I will be getting some very basic quals to help me on my way.
The main thing I was looking at was the C&G 2365 with TradesSkills4U. Which is a 7 Month course 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. At a grand total of ÂŁ7490.
As it turns out this a great way to get you qualified if you are not employed as an electrician. BUT you will have to complete the AM2 and NVQ bridging bits to qualify as an Electrician! (MY thought is why pay nearly 8 grand and still not be qualed?)
SO now I am looking at securing local employment when I relocate and enrolling on the full NVQ in a local collage and doing the 2357 to lvl 3

I'm no expert but this is my research so far. There are plenty of posts about the 2365 but the provider I have never heard.
Hope this helps :p

Yeah, 8k is a lot to comit to in one go. That's why I was looking at just the 2365 level 2 first as its only ÂŁ1600 and as home learning I can go at my own pace rather than 3 hours twice a week in the evenings at college. So I can get through the text book bashing a bit quicker than 12 months. And then tackle the level 3.

Also I couldn't do the 2 weeks on 2 off due to work.

Hello YOU TWO.

2365 Level 2 and 3 and 17th Edition, You are Qualified, but in truth normally no hands on experiance with the REAL WORLD.
The 2365 is the Class Room Part of the 2357 (with 1-2 bits left out)

In any area, you have a CLASS SYSTEM. The 2365 Level 3 People look down on the 2365 Level 2 but look up at the 2357. 2365 Level 2 knows there place. (I think its a seen from The Tonight Show, with the Two Ronnies and John Cleeves talking about Class) well same with these level of Educations

2365 say would be LOWER CLASS
2357 Middle Class Newbies
and 2357 Old Hands would be Upper Class

With 2365 Level 2&3 and 17th you can Join NICEIC/Napit etc as a Electrician and be Self Employed.
with the 2357 you can have a ECS GOLD CARD, and do building sites.

I did 2330 Level 2 and 3 for about ÂŁ1100/yr (but Books aint Cheap with that Might be about ÂŁ200 worth of books) then went on to do 2394/5 for ÂŁ575 each, also done PAT Testing for FUN ÂŁ250. But i am in the EAST MIDLANDS, tho the prices have gone up a bit, it dose seem to be you pay a PRIM RATE in the SOUTH. HUNT AROUND there are more FE/Colleges out there and doing for a better price for a bit more of a distance.

2365 L2...2365 L3...17th Edition...2357 Bridge Units...AM2
