Hi everyone,

Would anybody be able to explain to me more about the 2382. My reason for asking is because whilst browsing another post on the forums its stated that you wont get any where in the trade without it, however i have recently completed my course have all the certificates for 2330 & AM2 but i don't recall anything about 2382 and cannot find anything about it on any of my certificates .

Thanks

Darren

His Technical Certificate was done to BS 7671:2008 therefore he does not need to update to it.

Incorrect, the technical certificate does not cover using BS7671. It just covers installation and theory to that standard.
I've just taken over a level 3 2330 class and have ordered them to buy BS7671:2008 as none of them had it, as they were told it wasn't needed.

The 2382 covers using the book. It turns it from a book, into a tool.

Ha Ha now i'm even more confused maybe a little more detail will help, i have 6 certificates in total they are:

- AM2 certificate

- Level 3 certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and structures) 100/3602/7

- Certificate of unit credit towards Level 3 certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and structures) 100/3602/7 (301, 302 & 303)

- 3 Level 2 certificates for a total of 6 completed level 2 modules

I attended a 3 year apprenticeship and did not sit any additional course as for BS7671:2008 we was using that most of the 3rd year.

I'm starting to wonder if the college have forgotten to send out my 2382 cert there is no mention anywhere of 2382 anywhere on my certs

I disagree. That is why the 16th Edition-based qualifications from which it was permitted to use the "Update" course are not restricted simply to the 2381. Technical Certificates done as part of an Apprenticeship meant that you were qualified in the 16th Edition and there is no reason why the 17th would be different in this regard.

I'm willing to bet though that any prospective employer would ask if you hold a 17th Ed qualification and without the 2382 cert to show, you'd struggle.

i know electricians that have not bothered to update from the 15 to the current one but have the brb and are full compliment with the regs, but as lenny said any employer will ask you for it scheme providers certainly want it, and i think i am right in saying you will be able to do the shorter exam with the recent l3 2330.

This is where the problems begin. I will concede that an employer may ask for it, and that is frankly a misunderstanding on their part and they should not be allowed away with it.

The purpose of that is to allow those who did the 2330 in this case, or the 2351 or 2360 to the 16th Edition to update to the 17th Edition. You can't "update" from the 17th Edition to the 17th Edition.

As I say, it is a remarkable misunderstanding within the industry.

i think phil7677 has a very valid point its not going to hurt to much paying out ÂŁ60 for another bit of paper and if a potential employer does ask for it at least i have it, seeing how difficult it is to get a job I'm pretty sure that because Joe blogs has it and i don't at the moment they are going to choose him over me.

Can anybody recommend a firm that provides these exams in the Essex area?
