I am about to start my 2391 course on wednesday. I have been told you have to pass a pratical exam and a muti choice exam before i start the course. is this true ??
If so does anyone have any advice or help for me as i am loosing sleep about not been passing the entry exam:sick::sick:

i sat mine in june and never had to undergo a pre exam (i did for my am2 though), i thought the general idea was that you had to be an electrician or in training but i had people on my course which werent even sparks. Although you should have an understanding of testing and inspecting so the entry exam will probably be basic compared to the real thing so you should be fine

I did it and all they asked me on the phone was "do you have knowledge of electrics"
I said yes and nobody checked.

I think they are more interested in just getting people started and paying money for the course more than anything else.

It's a very good course though, A lot of home studying is needed.

The simple answer is if you are ready for the 2391 then there is nothing to fear, however with no or little experience then failing is probably the only outcome for most, it is the only current exam for electricians that isnt a multi choice guess effort

my mate just done the pre test on thursday and said it was easy if you know about dissconnection times and statorty/non statotry, what cert is for what job.

I did my 2391 and did not have any pre tests, and indeed there were some people doing the exam who obviously knew nothing. One walked out half way through without answering anything!
If you are doing a specific course they may be just checking your electrical knowledge before you start as C&G has some recommendations on the skill level of those taking the course.

The college I did mine at didn't have an entrance test and it appeared that anyone could get on it despite the C&G requirements, one student was a taxi driver with no electrical experience at all, surprise surprise he was one of the many who failed. I do know of other colleges in my area that do have an entry exam and others that will only take students who can prove prior knowledge and experience in electrics.
For me it would have been better to have a class full of experienced sparks as it would have meant less time would have been spent explaining stuff that should have been known by all studying at that level.
Either way it's a tough qualification to get but if you do a lot of work at home you should be ok.
PS there's info on this very forum about the course and final exam...good luck mate

You will be qualified to the 17th edition at 2330.
The 2330 level 3 is not the BS7671:2008 exam, but it does allow to take the update exam 2382-20, rather than the longer 2 hour exam 2382-10.
