Hi all,

I can not remember for sure how the exam was structured. A friend of mine is going to do it so I am trying to help.

If I remember correctly:
part 1.: find 12 faults with visual identification on a pre-made board
part 2: insulation resistance test on some modules
part 3: full inspection and test on a board.

Can anyone remember that board for part 3? What exactly was on it?

Or cab anyone remember the 12 faults needed to be found for part 1?

Thanks!

The usual faults, incorrect polarity, twisted cables/too tight radius, exposed live parts...the usual. Spotting them is the tricky bit.

Don't forget the earth loop impedance testing part too, the examiner tells you what device is protecting the circuit, you take a reading and explain whether it is acceptable or not.

It was & I'm fairly sure still is a TP&N board with an RFC in singles, a radial in MI to a fused spur, a sub-main to a SP&N board just above it which has a lighting circuit and a couple of other bits & bobs.

There may be one or two other circuits but I can't remember for sure.

Howard (SirKit Breaker) will know as he delivers it I believe.

I think the single phase DB has 2 lighting circuits-one of which has a dimmer switch, there was a radial socket outlet too.

The 3-phase DB also has a motor starter feeding a 3-phase socket outlet.

Surprised, I thought they would have dropped the motor circuit as it would be deemed too hard by summit skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3ph dist board, supplying a 3ph DOL motor control unit. and single phase dist board. from Single phase DB there are 3 or 4 different circuits arranged in such a way that if you dont concentrate you will cock the testing up so be careful. Look and think before you leap. When you do your Ze at the 3ph dist board make sure you disconnect the correct earthing cable, it is easy to get it wrong if you look for the biggest one. I am not going to give it all away, you will be walked through a similar board on the course, and as a competent spark you will not have any real problems apart from exam nerves which will be taken into account. Put more of your efforts into the theory, this is where you will fall over unless you have revised and revised again.

Widdler is the top man in here for the 2391, i have only just got going with it.

Cheers............Howard
