I'm struggling to get a definitive answer:

Does the City & Guilds 2391 have a 5 Year time limit, i.e. does it need retaking every 5 years?

NAPIT says "Yes, it does"
NICEIC - one Engineer said "No", one said "should do" another said "only if you do not regularly do PIR's"

Please Help

Hi Archie

Whilst undertaking my 17th edition early march, I posed the question of whether I should retake the C&G 2391 (2005 for me). The general concensus is that as long as you are fully conversant & up to date with Bs7671 & regularly undertake test & Inspectiions then why retake the exam?

Have your original qualifications expired? If so then everyones must expire so perhaps you need to question the NAPIT 'engineer' on his qualifications!:D

Having said that it doesn't do any harm in refreshing your memory/skills every so often & it shows due diligence. Only you can determine the timing/criteria (if I am in constant doubt about my every-day activities then I feel a need for training).

I trust this is useful.

Regards,
Gaz.

Think if you contact the C & G they will tell you that once you have sat the exam and passed you can't do it again unless it has changed as per the regs exam 2380 then 2381 now 2382.

NAPIT have their own 2391 certificate which they say you have to do every 5 years but don't think it is reconised outside them by any one else where the C & G is.

As above, but i have read that Napit i think require their members to re do 2391 (or equivalent) after 3 or 5 years.

Its a Napit thing.

There is definetly no requirement to renew a 2391 qualification as far as C&G are concerned it is a lifetime qualification, just need to keep up with any regs changes, think about the 17th where all the changes for testing were updated such as insulation resistance Zs Vd etc
