My works are putting all electricians (and me) on the inspection and testing 2391course. I'm really excited about it as I really enjoy testing and fault finding. However, im a little anxious that I have little experience compared to most who take such a course. I will (as I always do) research and study as much as I can to prepare but I'd like some advice if anyone could give me some?

Any particular bits of information I should concentrate on most? Any other advice?

I did the 2394/95 which I believe is the new/equivalent qualification, not a walk in the park by any means but so long as you have a decent knowledge and put the study in you will be fine, read GS3 and lots of John ward and Chris kitcher on you tube and you’ll be fine....

Hi gaz
I did 2394/95 which I believe is the new/equivalent,no walk in the park I can assure you 2 time served sparks on our course failed,so long as you have a good knowledge of electrical systems you’ll be fine
Read GN8 and watch john ward and Chris kitcher on you tube, what they don’t know ain’t worth knowing!

The 2394/95 will be the old one now as its the last registrations for it this month.

2391 is open book. GN3, BS7671 & On site guide read, learn and digest and watch Chris Kitcher, John Ward, Sparky Ninja over and over and over again. If you can practice (safely) dead and live tests on single and 3 phase boards in your own time and pace to build up confidence helps. Above all don't be afraid to ask your tutor questions as many times as you need to even if you may feel daft for doing so. Start reading and watching asap and every day from now on. Best of luck to you and let us know how you get on.

You already know what you talking about so this is a good start.
It might be worth making sure you are up to date with some of the less common situations encountered, so say moving away from ADS and considering electrical separation and non conducting locations, not exclusively but just as a reminder of the requirements in these sort of situations that do not come up in day to day work. A quick memory update on specific requirements for section 7 areas (not just bathrooms) can also be useful.
However the majority of the information is GN3 but ensure you are up to date with 18th Edition because presumably the course will be now for the latest version.

Thanks so much for the advice. I've watched pretty much every John wards videos, seen most of Chris kitchers and starting watching sparky ninjas a while back. I think sparky ninjas has some 2391 videos so I'm going to go and save them

Go on the C&G site and look at the comments on 2391 by the examiners where they analyse common failures. By far the most common failure is the inability to answer the question that was asked. People (apparently) tend to answer the wrong question as they did not read carefully. Check this out as well
C&G 2391 EXAM QUESTIONS - with answers - -----------.co.uk - http://www.-----------.co.uk/C%26G_2391_exam_questions_-_with_answers.html
and this (as they do not have 2391 reports as yet) for the Chief examiners reports.

That's brilliant vortigerm. I've read those comments, one thing that I was unaware of and is in the list of common failures, is disconnecting all condcutors of a circuit when performing insulation resistance tests. The cpc is supposed to stay in the MET?

I must say when I did the exam I was in the centre for seven hours for the 2394 and four hours for the 2395 doing the practicals so I don't know what went wrong in my case as they seem to say two hours practical...
