Hi
I have passed the written 2391 but failed the practical as my employer wont let anyone test until qualified which is currently no one!..
So having no daily practical testing experience i have built a test rig and i want to buy a meter to practice with.. I know its a lot of money but so is paying for a resit @ÂŁ110 which my employer wont pay again hence i also lose holiday too taking the exam from here on..
So can someone please offer advice on what meter would u buy bearing in mind my situation. I have been looking about and see meters such as the fluke 1651B sold on ebay for ÂŁ250 second hand, yet they are new for ÂŁ390inc vat..
Im thinking of buying one new as if its going to lose ÂŁ150 when i sell it thats almost cheap as failing just once, but without the stress and increasing my odds of cracking this practical too lol..

Any advice on the practical also please, i failed on lack of time.. Examiner said he would have passed me on big test if i had been faster as i made no mistakes.. other problem was i only found 9 faults on visual board.. any suggestions??

Thx

seems like a lot of money to spend just for practice! you can find some hire shops that rent them out. additionally, whatever you buy, either new or second hand should have a current calibration certificate - otherwise you would be throwing money away, i.e. not able to use it on installations you are testing/signing off.

Very unusual I think for someone to fail the practical but pass the written.

I have passed my practical but have my written paper still to take, I can't see me doing to well at all on it.. Negative thinking I know!

I have a new Metrel tester of my own, also the collage had fluke, Metrel & megger multifunction testers, most of the other students In the exam used the megger or Metrel testers, I think I seen 1 person with a fluke, they caused too many problems giving inacurate results. So people didn't bother with them.

Thanks guys
My colleages have failed the written twice and i have failed the practical. My employer is abandoning the idea due to costs and intends to farm out testing to contractors.
Naturally as i passed the dreaded written, i dont want to stop.. My employer has one set of meters but wont lend equipment, they are an ---!..

"Magic-sid" Yes the written was hard, just read GN3 regularly and ure there.

I plan to pass the practical and change employer as they are not benifiting from me completing this course if im paying the rest of it.

:D
