I'm a 3rd year electrical student and I'm wondering wether it is worth doing the 2391 testing and inspection course now or do it later once I have started working in the industry.

I would do it now whilst your still in the learning frame of mind, the 2391 is a hell of a lot to take in. Buy yourself a copy of GN3 now, start reading it and ask your level 3 tutors anything that you don't understand.

Hi, As paulm said, best to do it now while the stuff is fresh in your head. You need to need to know GN3 inside out, back to front and upside down. Apart from that, its a piece of cake. Good luck

I wouldn't call it a piece of cake after the comments of last nights exam conversation but some people don't find it as hard as others.

The reason the 2391 is difficult, is because you turn up for the course, and then get a couple of weeks at the most to revise GN3.

Craig, start to read and take in GN3, ask lots and lots of questions on here and at college, and don't be shy, there are no stupid questions and most of the forum members will be only too willing to help. You may get the odd sarcastic reply now and again, but ignore it, most of the members in here are very professional and knowledgable, and they will treat you with the respect you deserve. Try get a bit of hands on testing under your belt, and you will have no problems getting through the 2391. It is all about knowing and using the correct terminology, get GN3, study it till you can recite it, and give yourself a good couple of months before you do the course, and you will have no problems.

Cheers.........Howard

I am in a similar position as Craig141. I have a possible date of Jan 2012 for the 2391. I've GN3, exam success and docs galore. I know it's no walk in the park, but I do think it would more productive while I'm still at college and have support and In a learning environment.

I did 2391 while I was doing my 2330 level 3 failed first time passed second there is alot take it so I would suggest doing it straight after you have finished the course you are on now while all the info you have learnt will still be fresh in your head.

Yeah you can only enroll for the 2391 if you have already passed the 2382. and to be fair the 2391 would be a nightmare without a good knowlege of bs7671.

I have only just completed lvl 2 and i have 2382 and im due to sit the 2391 in july, so when you do it is irrelevant. i suggest you have a frank and honnest discussion with your current lecturers as they will know better than anyone if your ready for it yet

I took 5 weeks off mid way through my 2330 level 3 to do 2391 and passed and it also made level 3 alot easyer.
Seems every job worth going for whats it so i went and got it.
Best advice is as others have mentioned take it while its all still fresh you in your head.
Get to grips with "rule of thumb" values and maximum values in BS7671.
If you want some pointers PM me i wont waffle on in this post :D
And while your on your 2391 course no matter how stupid the question is, If you dont get it ASK! ASK! ASK!
We all have a brain fart day!
