Written exam tomorrow night, anyone else?

Anybody got some last minute tips?

What helped you in the exam?

I know there is about 5 of us at least on here so any advice would mean a lot to us. Thanks in advance, I'm off for a 3 hour power read of the GN3.

Anyone that is taking it read this post from sir kitbreaker http://www.electriciansforums.net/i...cal-installations/28040-2391-course-done.html, it is a good reality check for us. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL.

Sit tight, don't worry and everything will flow provided you have revised and remembered everything. I passed first go, many don't..... There is always give away questions in section A and the start of section B, SNAP THEM UP!!!!! and you will pass

Dont power read it for 3 hours for a start lol
i did 20 mins a night for the week before my test, Seemed to sink in then(And i didnt get bored to death with it) each to there own.
My advice plod on, Dont spend to much time on any 1 que, You either no it or you dont. Then when you get to the end you ll have some time to get back to the 1s u missed :)
And READ THE QUESTION! understand what its asking before you answer.
Hope this helps :)

Good luck all taking exam tomorrow. Past papers big help as some questions are repeated from section a and similar questions from section b. Although they seem to be getting wise to that now and changing them abit or wording them different. Read questions a few times as they are worded in a way that can send you to the wrong answer.

Draw out the earth fault path for the different system types untill you can do it blindfolded. Remember the correct terminology.

Keep calm and good luck.

Good Luck buddy! Got my also tomorrow evening... Have been reading the green book (iee exam success) very good book! Its just a case of reading the questions and hoping to understand what the they are asking! lol

there are always a lot of simmilar repeated questions where people tend to lose marks through using incorrect terminology, this can mean the difference between a pass/fail.

Yes, terminology, C & G make no secret of the way these papers are marked down for incorrect terminology.

Don't write about a Zs test, it's an 'earth fault loop impedance test'

Don't write about an R1+R2 test, it's 'continuity of protective conductors'

Get the test instrument names exact as per Guidance Note 3.

On the full blown 'describe how you would...' question, there seems to be 3 popular subjects, namely insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance and continuity of ring final circuit conductors. Write down these testing procedures and remember that missing something simple like nulling of leads will (quite rightly) decimate the marks awarded for that particular question!

Good luck!

Good luck leelbs and thanks to everyone that has given advice. I'll be reading this post again 20 mins before going into the exam to point me in the right direction, cheers lads.

good luck everyone.
don`t turn up with two mins to spare sitting in rush hour traffic getting stressed and wound up.
get there half an hour early have a drink (preff not alcohol) unless the nerves are making your knees knock :D
read and re read.
answer in any sequence you want ie q1, q6, q10 what ever you want as long as its clear if im marking it i can see you have labelled your question and they know which one it is.
don`t forget to fill in the flap at the back of the book saying which ones you have answered.
dont waste time stressing on an answer if you dont know it straight away come back to it.
if it asks for 3 things dont put 10 answers they will mark the first 3 so say if the first 2 are wrong and the next 8 are right its (1) mark you have earned. go for the 100% ones you know for sure.
if you have a question you have no idea about have a go anyway, sub conscious you might know it and it might get you the 1 point needed
spend 45 mins on the first section if your doing that first then move onto section 2.
come back with 10 mins to spare if you can and correct those stupid answers you might have put
if it is a 1 point answer dont write an essay. if its worth a point they are after a one liner
