It looks like im going to miss the boat on the 2391. Does this mean i have to do 2394/2395 at basically double the cost?

It shouldn't be double, there is a lot of overlap between the two qualifications, for example same test methods. Also, the exams comprise (a) practical, (b) multiple guess paper, and (c) hard written paper - the multiple guess paper (at least in April) was the same for both 2394 and 2395 - if you passed it, you got the credit for both qualifications. A good college would take these things into account, though not saying they will, logistically it might be difficult, unless it was a course where everyone did both quals.

Hi growler, Well I did my courses at BCoT Basingstoke (since my employer at the time was paying), bit of a trek, but I was very happy with them. Don't know if Bracknell College do them or not, you'd need to check their website perhaps.

As I've said before I think renumbering the 2391 and splitting it down the middle is a bad idea and needlessly confusing. Everyone knows what the 2391 is, and it is considered to 'separate the men from the boys' whereas the 2392 is an introduction to inspection and testing (easier) and the 2393 is what is generally called the 'part p course' - an introduction to the building regs.
I envisage employers still asking for 2391 for years to come - when someone tries to tell them they haven't got 2391 but they have got the replacement qualifications 2394 and 2395 which together are exactly the same thing, I reckon they'll just do a quick 'face-palm' and state 'that's just numbers to me'.
Change for the sake of change.

hi all

i sat on the 2391 course last week just to get a taste of whats required, then sitting the course and doing the and exam in july.any way more to the point the tutors said that there extending the course till the end of the year so you got august october and december course then there finishing

Phoned a college today to ask about the new course and was told 2394 replaces 2392 and 2395 replaces 2391. So you only have to do 2395 if your up to it. There not a split version of the 2391 which is good, unless ive been mis informed !

Well, yes and no.

The 2392 is still running till the end of the year for registration and is currently directed to a different audience. The 2394 has been created from an area that previously did not exist.

If you are experienced in commissioning electrical installations and are looking to improve your competence in periodic inspections, then you can just aim for the 2395. You do NOT Have to do the 2394 and the 2395 together in any shape or form.

The natural selection of the qualification does strongly suggest that the 2392 will die off - as it appears obvious that the 2394 will be preferred.

I wrote this blog to explain it a little better -

New Testing and Inspection Qualifications Available | Electrical and PAT Training Course News

The 2394 is the Initial verification of a new supply and the 2395 is existing installations, so both of these qualifications would be the same as gaining the old 2391. For both the 2394/5 you are required to do a online exam and also a written exam, for the practicals the 2394/5 board is one board but when doing the 2395 board the assessor will introduce faults to the board. I have the specifications for the boards this is because I build 2391/4/5 boards you also still have the insulation board, loop board and fault finding board with 12 faults on it
