Hi all, firstly apologies if this has been answered already but after trawling the internet all day for what in theory is a simple question, but the answers out there are far too contradictory i thought i'd just post and see what you bright sparks have to offer.

Ok, basicly scenario is i'm wanting to get into a bit of testing and inspection, and looking to do well, ultimately both the 2392 and the 2391, however due to i am having to pay for the training ill obviously do one before the other (no real previous testing experience).

So has anoyone got a simple straight to the point answer to the following:-

a. What does the qualification city and guilds 2392 actually certify me to do? what are the limitations?

Thanks and i look forward to anyones answers.

Dave

The 2392 is primarily aimed at tradesmen who do not do electrical installations as primary work.

Eg Kitchen fitters, plumbers etc.

This qualification gives them the knowledge to be able to safely test their own work and fill out certificates correctly.

The 2391 is a "full blown" qualification which proves competence in all areas of electrical installation, primarily, periodic inspections.

My suggestion would be to miss the 2392 and go straight for the 2391 to avoid extra costs, but only if you feel confident enough.

i have been on here before talking about the same issue.nowhere will take you for the 2391 if you haven't got 17th edition, and lots of places are requesting 2392 before you take 2391.my college is one such place.

i missed the 2392 out and went straight for 2391...!! 2392 not recoginized to be honest!

passed 2391 with a breeze as i read up and tested my house over and over again!

my mate has 2392 and although he not used he wished he got the 2391!! (he did a quick fix 8 week course not that i recomend them but he was a previous Aircraft technician with Navy so had some decent elecy skills)

i had my first class for 2392 yesterday. the tutor said that some years the failure rate is 80%!!!! and then you hear stories of people who absolutley blast it with no experience whatsoever just reading books. it just annoys the hell out of me because no one gives you a straight answer.i asked my last tutor when i did 2330 level 3 last year and he said that he thought if i did 2391 i'd pass it. i went to enrol and get told the college will only allow you to do 2392 first.i just wish it was consistent along the entire C&G.
