I’m looking at going on a course to gain knowledge of Inspect and Testing. However I’ve read about each course and what it has to offer, and wondered if anyone had any advice or had done either course or both courses to compare? Also the local college that offers the course stipulates you has to do the 2394 before the 2395, is this just them or something city and guilds has brought in?

Many thanks!

2394 is I&T for initial verification (new installations),
2395 is periodic inspection & testing of existing installations

Nothing on the C&G site about you needing 2394 before taking 2395.

Hope that helps

If your have no knowlege or limited knowlege of testing my advice would be to 2394 first. I sat both courses and the 2394 was really in depth on testing procedures. On the 2395 they assume you are competent at testing. hope this helps.

I concur with MK-MIKE's advice but just for complete clarity for someone who's not familiar with this... 2395 is indeed about I&T of existing installations. A common example of which is a periodic inspection (i.e. coming about as a the result of a certain amount of years/months having elapsed), but an inspection/test of existing doesn't HAVE to be as a result of that. Can be for other purposes, e.g. change of use of property, insurance requirement, change of occupant, incident. As you can see people still talk about it in those terms as if periodic is what it's fundamentally called, but it's not really. GN3 talks in general terms about Electrical Inspection Condition Report(ing) (EICR) rather than anything specifically periodic.
