been contacted today about enrolling on the 2395 course, at the college i used to go to, problem is i dont have a great deal of testing experience, is it worth doing the 2394 course first? as im lead to believe the 2394 is for initial verification, so does this mean that with only the 2395 i still wont be able to sign off jobs?

any passed exam papers or new for this course would be much appreciated thanks

Well from my research the 2394 and 2395 both separately allow you to do periodic and initial inspections, other places say you need both to do either.
For approved spark some places say you need one, some both.

I have e-mailed JIB/C&G for clarification

After looking at it myself, IMO I have come to the conclusion that you'd need both for approved spark status, 2394 is a level 2 certificate and 2395 is a level 3.
I have managed to get myself on one of the few remaining 2391 courses (dec exam) as it will cost half the price of having to do the above.
From what I gather C&G have split the old 2391 into the two new courses above, and with that, the cost of getting approved status has doubled.
The only plus is that if anyone thought they'd struggle with the 2391, the new format should be a little easier as it breaks it in two.

The 2394 course is intended to cover the initial verification of an installation and the inspection and testing required for the Electrical installation certificate.
The 2395 course is intended to cover the periodic inspection of existing installations and the Electrical installation condition report.

From my point of view (which is not supported by C&G) the 2394 is equivalent to the old 2392 and the 2395 is equivalent to the old 2391. This is a simplistic view since they are presented in different ways but I feel it is a useful comparison.

If you do not have a lot of experience in testing and you are unsure if you will be able to successfully complete the 2395 then first completing the 2394 may help you to gain some additional knowledge.

However there is no requirement for you to have completed the 2394 for you to sign off an initial verification. You must be competent to do this, and the information gained from the 2395 will provide enough information to understand initial verification so long as you realise that limitations are not permitted on initial verification.

Review the information on the C&G website about the 2395 and see if you feel confident with what they are asking you to achieve; if you are, then go for the 2395, if not then find out about the 2394 but be prepared to take the 2395 later (at more cost!)

City and guilds state that the 2395: is aimed at practising electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or who require some update of training before going onto other City & Guilds qualifications. The qualification is also suitable for those with limited experience of periodic inspection of electrical installations, such as those entering the industry from other engineering disciplines or who have been working in allied trades.

i think i will just go for the 2395 then when possible go for the 2394 also so that i have the up to date qualifications. it doesnt start untill the end of novemeber so i think i should be able to cram in alot of testing in that time to get up to scratch
