2395 questions help

I

imranayaz

Hi all I have exam coming up shortly on June and need help with some questions. Please if you do not know the answers recommend a site, videos or another forum where I might find answers.

explain why the RCD instrument test should be carried out prior to operation of test button?

I do have one is answer on page 65 under the heading integral test device and then points listed from
A to D

I have amendment 3: so it says

operation of the integral test device does not provide a means of checking:

a) the continuity of the earthing conductor or the associated cpc or
b) any earth electrode or other means of earthing or
c) any other part of the associated installation earthing or
d) the sensitivity of the device

When you are testing an RCD you are attempting to check if the device functions correctly under normal operating conditions.
The most likely condition for tripping is when the circuit is energised and the RCD has not been operated for some time.
GN3 states that the testing at 50% Idn should be undertaken first, this is to ensure that in its normal operating state the RCD will not trip at 50% current.
If you apply a similar reasoning to the pressing of the test button what would pressing the test button affect in terms of checking correct function in normal operating conditions once you start the test current tests?

Would I what I have mentioned (points A to D) suffice, since this is what has been mentioned in GN3 amendment 3

Another question,

describe, giving reason, what should be recommended to the client regarding the extent and limitations of inspection and test?

Points A to D do not cover the reason for performing current testing prior to pressing the test button.
This is done to ensure the RCD is not "primed" to trip by being operated in advance, as this is not what will happen in reality.

The second question in good C&G style is very vague and unclear, however it does not sound too much like a true 2395 question.

The client needs to be aware of what is actually being tested and agree to this, also they may have specific limitations that they wish to impose, Therefore the competent inspector will be in discussion with the client to explain the effects of restricting the extent and imposing limitations.
You need to detail the recommendations that the inspector would provide the client to explain this situation and its effects.
