Hello mate, I sat the exam in December and somehow passed!?!
You'll really struggle to find any past papers due to the small numbers of exam papers that have been written and issued. However I can tell you the format of how OUR exam was laid out. This should give you an idea of what you'll be asked.
They allocate you 1 hour, try and do it in half an hour. Get VERY good at cable calcs, you need as much time as possible for the other 8 questions. Read the questions very carefully, he will try and lead you down the garden path with the scenario and the qeustion will be about something else, BEWARE!!!
1. Cable calc.
2. Cable/cpc calc.
3. Question from either parts 1 or part 3.
4. A scenario question, wants you point of view.
5. All from part 52.
6. A scenario question, wants you point of view.
7. A scenario question, wants you point of view.
8. Appendix 4.
9. Test and inspection.
10. A scenario question, wants your point of view.
When I say a scenario question i mean that you'll be given a set scenario and be asked to explain from your perspective the appropriate answer, he doesn't want you just to copy the regs word for word. He needs to get from you that you've digested the regs, and can fluently churn them out again.
I only managed to finish 8/10 questions and passed, and a very clever friend of mine answered all 10 questions and failed.
It's all in the way that you display that you fully understand the regs, and where to look for the exact information required.
It's a horrible exam to sit due to it being 3 hrs long, but if you really really nail the cable calcs you'll have plenty of time to sail through the remaining 8 questions.
Write as many notes and formulas as you can in your regs book. write down the order of questions that I've just given you as well, it helps.
Rather you than me!!!
