Hi Guys

No shooting down please, just looking for a little advise. Met a guy on holiday and he got talking about his basement conversion and the spark and builder who ran of with his money before completion and without certifying his instalation. He is trying to chase them, but not having a lot of joy.

After looking at some photos he sent I have ascertained that the main C/U which has 2 rings, 2 lighting and a cooker on a split load board with 2 x 80A RCD's. There is also a 40A mcb on the none RCD side which feeds the 2nd consumer unit in the basement which is 2.5M directly below.

Its fed on a 16mm twin and earth.

So the second consumer unit and now the worries.

10way, splt load on 2 x 80A RCDs.
On each RCD is 1 lighting, 1 ring and 1 Air conditioning unit
Then 4 none RCD circuits which are
Smoke Detect
Sump Pumps
Water Heater
Ventialtion System

I know the Air Con draws 12A each
Smoke Detector Minimal
Sump pumps and flooding alarm, I have no idea.
Water heater standard Tank
Ventilation all run of 12V 150Va transformer

Not knowing his lighting arrangements, but know he has some downlights in the basement, and simple calc with diversity, the 2nd CU is pulling more than the main CU and all this of a 40A MCB.

Would it be that he henleys the tails and puts 2 x 63A fused isolaters and then runs 25mm tails and 16mm earth to each C/U.

All I am looking for is some suggestions as how to correct this. He needs the advise so he can call someone in locally to correct the problem. If your in the Fulham area, let me know

Whats your thoughts guys.

Regards

Dave

Depending on the make of CU he may be able to find a 63A MCB. Worst case he could get a 50A MCB. In real world scenarios i would be surprised if he ever tripped the 40A MCB as most of the loads will be running intermittently.
