2pin or not 2pin, that is the question

Hi all,

I have some equipment for my fish tank and it comes from Hong Kong, it has 2pin plugs and is i guess for there 110v supply,

Can i just replace them with our standard plugs (obviously without an earth) and use them? I know that if they are double insulated then its ok, but some do not say if they are or aint, ie not box in a box.

They should still have some markings on them can you see a symbol that looks like to boxes one inside the other thats the symbol for double insulation.

I think that before anything is sold here it should also have a CE marking on it

No, like i said not box in box symbal, these are ebay items so not necessarily CE marked

Scary, I had some equipment presented to me to install that come from china and it was mainly metal and there was no earth....I advised them of the consequences and walked away

Hong Kong when it was a uk territory was 240v like syngapore so i am guessing your kit came from mainland China. I would be very wary and would stick an 3 pin plug on anyway no harm done if its double insulated.

if your worried pop the 3 pin plug on and get them pat tested
