I'm adding a outside light to an. Existing install. The lights have been wired in an rb4. Can I add my light fitting to the circuit but wire it in 3 core flex instead of 1.5 twin and earth?

I always use black 3 core flex because I think it looks neater than having T&E on the walls and as Nick says, the cable glands on most fittings are designed for round cable.

It’s unlikely to get damaged when wiring at high level such as installing a light, however, if flex or hi tuf etc is routed at low level where it can be damaged it should certainly have some form of mechanical protection.

pvc flex = no
rubber = yes

You are going to have to convince me of that. i have read the technical specs on flex recently and it does not say it cannot be clipped outside.
If we were discussing grey T&E i would agree because it perishes in direct sunlight, but black or white flex, there is no problem with.
