Hello u bright sparks!!

Right iv been given a job this week wiring up a car ramp in a garage. This is on a 3 phase 400 v supply.
(this is only my second go at 3 phase)

Im going to be using 6.00 mm 4 core SWA cable and K.E.M Heavy duty isolators, to distribute the power.

My question is regarding earthing.. in the passed when earthing SWA i have terminated to a c.c.u and earthed the earthing lug from the earth bar.

As i am terminating from a K.E.M (and have never worked with these before) where do i pick up my earth from? what size earthing conductor should i use?

Cheers :)

Are you talking about the Rotary plastic type KEM isolators?

Your saying you taking a 4 core 6 mm I assume that this will be the 3 phase and neutral, as surely the ramp control system will need a neutral, so your CPC is the armoured?

Personally I would terminate the armoured into a Galv 4x4 or 4x6 box and then pick up your earth via your banjo/earth nut as normal

the K.E.M's have rotary isolation handles on them, as iv never worked them before i dont know much more.

yes i will be using 4 core,3 phase 1 neutral but in regards to earthing the armoured (like i said in the passed iv only terminated to a c.c.u) so not sure how to earth glanding kit Lug? as to earth the armoured in needs to be connected to earth somewhere right? or am i confusing myself?? lol

Yes you seem to be confusing yourself yes.

This is a new circuit I take it. So your running you 6mm armoured from a Distribution board to the KEM isolator.

As your armoured is the CPC you need to gland and fit either a banjo/earth nut at your DB and then take a fly earth, 4/6mm to the earth bar in the board.

Then at your KEM, gland the SWA and again using a banjo/earth nut fit a fly lead to the KEM earth bar. Now if it's a plastic KEM as I said I would terminate the SWA into a Galv adaptable box, and then run tails and earth into the isolator

I'm assuming the cable will have to be cleated well to hold it in place anyway, as a stuffing gland ain't going to hold it tight like a SWA gland...

If the shared neutral is lost ,won`t you be getting 400v across both cottages? 2 phase US style but double the Voltage.
