3 Phase Installations ?

In a commercial environment where three phase is available, but roof space isnt freely available - what are the advantages of using a 3 phase system as opposed to a single phase std system ??

What would you install and why if say your could only get 10 or 15 panels on the roof

It depends on the energy usage to get the most from the system.
Does one phase use more than the other 2? or is the phase usage evenly balanced?
All that said it is always good practice to balance phases as well as possible.

As to what to install? it all depends on usage and budget, it would be a good case to install Sunpower or sanyo panels for more output on a smaller roof, but the returns may not look so good, it is time to get out your pencil and make lots of different calculations, and then you have to sell it to the customer with the reasons why.

The reason I ask is that a client of mine has been sold a system based on a SB 3600TL-20 and around 16panels in two stings..... and like I said 3phase is avail onsite even though they no longer have machinery.

You could install a single phase solar system up to the maximum space you have available then re arrange the three phase board to include the solar install but balancing out the 3 phases
