Discuss 3 phase motor cuts out when button isn't held in the Commercial Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

yep. find the fault. could be contactor coil or several other possibilities.

Are you saying that you have a starter and its not latching, so you have to keep your finger on the start button?
If so then do as Tel says and find the fault. You know the motor works so there is something wrong with the latching.

Did it work before?
Do you understand basic motor control circuits?

This can be many things as already stated your stop button priority maybe wired wrong and a stop command is active like a limit switch etc .... if its wired wrong its possible to over-ride the stop command by holding the start button in .

Has the motor overload tripped - does resetting it cure the problem? If so you controls are incorrectly wired and you also need to find out why motor O/L has tripped in the first place.

Caution just asking this question gives indication this is not your comfort one and I advice you leave well alone and get someone in who is competent as your lack of experience in this area could endanger others or damage equipment if you try to resolve the issue without understanding both the circuit and risk assessment.

Don't you just love these posts.... I'm soooo happy the OP got back to us to give us more info....
