Can anyone help I’v just taken over a job and 1st fix has been done I’m just doing 2nd the problem is I cant work out what the last “Electrician” was thinking when running the cables for a 3way switch between the dining room, kitchen and porch. In the kitchen light switch is a live feed and switch line from the light and two 3core&earth. One 3core goes to dining room switch & One goes to the porch switch. How would you get this to work?
Many thanks

it wont! you need three core from kitchen to dinning then three core from dinng to porch.
kitchen wires up just the same way as a two way and so dose the porch. The dinnig needs an intermediate switch. Through link the strapper(choc block together) and put L1's & L2's on either side of the switch

Its simple u connect the two switches with one 3 core up as normal br=c bl=l1 gr=l2
the middle switch should be an intermidate and you shloud conect the commons in a conector block the strapers as a normal intermidate so blacks one side greys the other also conect the permant live in with one of the blacks and the switch live in with one of the greys,
All he has done is a conversion switching arangement but with the twin switch wire in the intermidate switch
hpoe that helps
AJ

It will work how its wired at mo cant be botherd to draw it though

You can do this quite easily, but the only downside is that you will need to sleeve the earth of one of the 3 cores as a live conductor.

Take the 3 core going to the porch.
Use it like a 2 way switch (ie strappers and a switch wire) Connect the switch in the porch as a 2 way.

Then take the 3 core going to the dining. Fit that switch in the dining as an intermediate using 2 cores as strappers to be block connected to the strappers coming back from the porch 2 way switch.
Then use the other live cable and sleeve the earth and use these as two more strappers going back to the kitchen 2 way switch.

I hope this hasn't confused the issue. If you want I could probably draw it out and email it

Thanks Guys! So in the intermediate switch i connect the live in one of the L1 terminals and the switch line goes in one of the L2 terminals.
Its meant to be 3 switches operating one set of lights in the kitchen. So you can turn them on/off from the dining room, kitchen or the porch.

Hi hope this helps
