Hi,

Im just in the process of making some PAT test leads up, 16 and 32A, 110v and 230v with IEC end and plug etc, just going to make some 415v adapters up and just wonder, does the single Line conductor on the 230v plug end you plug into the tester connect to all three phases in the 415v plug?

I presume it does, I just wanted to check before i wire it up and put bridges in or not. I cant see that It wouldn't bridge between on three phases as it would make no sense otherwise.

If anyone can confirm it would be appreciated thanks, same question goes to 4 and 5 pin.

Thanks,

Some I made earlier...

well...you need 2 types here...

star & delta...

your star type is for 3 phase & neutral + earth plugs....delta for 3 phase + earth plugs....its how you wire them up in the back...

dont forget that a pat tester carries out a `limited` IR test....that is to say all live conductors together to earth....

dont forget though to mark up these test leads as for TESTING PURPOSES ONLY....
and make sure they dont get into the hands of the unskilled/uninstructed...ever...

Hi,

Thanks for this, I was just about to get the label machine out to do that :)

Ok so on the 5 pin, presumably, from the 13A plug top, i connect the neutral to neutral, and then the line to all three phases in the 415v plug, and earth to earth.

The 4 pin, just connect the line to the three phases and earth to earth, what about the neutral? Do I leave that disconnected then?

dont use sticky labels...these can come off in service...

get the soldering iron out and scribe into the plugs with it....

perminant see....very important....

no...what have i just told you?....you connect it in star....

Sport I'm being thick, so let me see if I have it correct in my head...

5 Pin is wired like this: from the plug top earth goes to earth, then you connect both line and neutral together in the neutral connector of the commando plug and then bridge from that point to each of the three phases.

And the 4 pin is the same except you don't connect it in the neutral as there isn't one so connect it in one of the phases and bridge across?

thanks for for the help, it's much appreciated, I'd rather make my own so I can understand what's actually happening opposed to plugging it in and assuming I know.

yep...but in a star configuration....3 legs radiating out from the neutral to each phase....(think about how a TX is arranged)

when theres no neutral then you wire each phase in Delta...caus a pat tester tests all live conductors to earth on IR......:D

all you have to picture in your mind is a delta star transformer....and use that as a template....thats how you wire em...but both the L & N conductor goes to the neutral...which is your starpoint..

dont forget you will need 2 sets...16A & 32A

you be sure to mark them up permanently now wont you...and never let them get into the wrong hands....

Hi,

Thanks very much for your help, ill order the plugs etc on eBay now, i know about the 16 and 32 amp, I've done the same with the others, I may not ever use them, but you never know who will call tomorrow.

Ill ensure they are properly marked in a permanent way too.

Enjoy your weekend.
