Hi guys, new to this solar lark but am trying to get quotaions for design, supply and install for a 49.8kW solar array for our office.
Very early stages yet so don't want to go to trouble of getting people out to visit as we are still wondering about costs / return etc.

Basic details are as follows
Roof pitch = approx 30 degrees
Roof height = single storey building approx 4m
No shading
Roof area = 750 sqm
South facing
Inside M25 = London

The reason I posted here is because I thought there might be some fairly simple design software packages where you guys and plug in numbers and almost auto generate a quotation - forgive me if this is not the case.

We are looking for a quick estimate of the costs involved and the timescales if anyone is interested.
No preferrence on manufacturer apart from not wanting Chinese !

Many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

We could probably give you an idea of the costs and payback involved. I'd also advise you to consider Chinese panels for your installation as the world's three largest module manufacturers are all Chinese, one of them (Yingli) was a major sponsor of the FIFA World Cup last year and they are consistently being chosen ahead of European modules for some of the largest solar farms in the world so you can assume the bankers, investors and engineers have done their homework regarding reliability, payback time and product quality. There are of course some low quality Chinese panels out there but if you stick to the bigger companies (Yingli, Suntech, Trina to name a few) they are usually listed on the NYSE and already have huge numbers of modules installed globally so you should be safe with them. So much so that many industry analysts see as inevitable the disappearance of some of the well known European brands over the next couple of years, BP Solar being an early casualty of the price wars. I have no vested interest in any particular module manufacturer but always like to point out to our customers that it is not a simple case of modules from Europe or Japan being better quality than Chinese modules, often the only difference is the price.

Many thanks for your reply and comments on the Chinese modules. Our reason for not wishing to use the Chinese products is based on 4 years experience living and working in China and seeing the long term quality issues they have with their manufacturing industry there. We were involved in many Western led projects, hoiwever in the end the Chinese got their way and found ways of circumventing the QAQC proceedures.
I'm not sure if you have ever been to China, it's worth a visit to see the state of things after a few years of being purchased there ................. shocking lack of quality where metalurgy is concerned. We worked with some of the biggest Chinese manufacturing companies and Oil companies ............ never will I buy anything Made in China that is intended to be around for more than 5 years. IMHO.
Regards
Paul

50% of all global solar cell product comes from China. May be a European name on the module but the cell will come from China in the first place more than likely.

We have a purlin stell frame roof about 6 years old and it's see facing. About 1,400 sqm on that side.

Ref the Chinese manufacturers - agree about the cells being manufactured in china in the main, it's the final product that we are concerned about. Tiawan ....... Now that's a different story, far better qaqc pro seduces and ethics.
Anyway, seems there are not many people on here willing to take on a 49kW system !
Thanks anyway

Hi Paul

We have done solar installations all over UK including 72kW PV system at Ramridge Farm in Herts.
A G59 system installation would have to go through certain procedures in order for certification.
We can give you the detailed costing of the project but to give you a rough estimate you are looking around 1.85/Watt give or take.

Please feel free to contact us.

Solar Products and Solar Services for you: Solar Energy, Solar Panels, Solar Power and more

Have a look at the Case Studies Section for savings etc etc...

Cheers

Many thanks Paul. I'll drop you a line and see if we can get closer to an install price and a better understanding of the post install procedures.
Best Regards,
Paul
