4kw sytem

Hi every 1 im thinking of fitting a 4kw system to my own roof next year Im an electrician but not mcs at the moment would it be worth doing it my self then get approved by mcs and use the feeding tarif I think the price of the gear should fall next year do you recon I could get all the gear for about £5k including vat any help would be great

Unlikely, most panels will cost you over £1 per watt (before VAT) the cheapist i have seen is the suntechs at 93p/watt but even then thats still £3270 before VAT an inverter will set you back around £1,000 before VAT aswell so just with them 2 your almost at the 5k mark... then you still have the buy cable, monting system and all your accessorys to go with it, not to mention any tools/ DC testers you will need. I did a price for my own house and that came to about £6500 before VAT although I do have a weird roofing system so I end up spending almost £700 just on that you might need scaffold aswell and thats a good £500 you can cliam the VAT back ofcourse so you might just about be able to get away with £5k before VAT but i would be very suprised if you can do it after VAT. let me know how you get on though, I would be intrested to find out !

will do I spoke to a manufactur today and he said that the prices are going to drop a lot in the new year but I have to get mcs or can I pay an mcs company to sign of the work for me ie they test everthing and see all the cables and then give me cert and im still not sure if I should just keep my money in the bank.

I have no doubt you will be able to buy a 4kWp system for under £5000 in early 2012. Plus VAT of cause.

no ive had 3 kits off them! 2x 3kw 250w panels MASSIVE !! 1x2.77kw nice black decent size 230w panels!! thing is its taken me over 3weeks to get all kits complete!! should be fine after xmas as the madness be gone! for the money YES the 230w black panels are great! avoid 250w blue MASSIVE 1950x980 i think! just been so much hassle getting the bits when they got ur money!! but dont let that put u off!! value for money defo!!!

well im no miss piggy!!!!! out of intrest any potential client on here knows way to much anyhow! ie they are the kind of person that search the internet !!!! google is a key to everything!!!! but they also no u get what u pay for!!! anyone can see what kits cost!!trade or not trade!! but they cant sign the job off thats the key!! its up to u to impress them with ur knowledge/surveys/service if they not willing to pay for that then STUFF them !! RELAX !! ur previous work should always get you more !! unless u r a MUPPET?

I dont think Id be too worried about competing with you powervan and we have a 45% referral rate to draw on. However my comment still stands!

I know of some who jumped into the PV business to make a quick buck that are now bailing out!!! Where does that leave your customers!

Stories of earning enough to build their swimming pool/extensions (I read it here) do us no favours.

We are in renewables for the long haul and believe despite government tinkering that there is an industry that is sustainable. We have 30 years behind us of contracting and find it very sad that margins get destroyed before your eyes on this forum.

The PV business could be saved but driving your gpm down to 10 % isnt the way. That indeed is unsustainable!!

All posts in this forum should be considered and wholesalers with product to sell shouldnt be allowed to viral market here.

I think you are speking abot prices which are not existing today. I bought in Europe below 1₤ anyway!! PV solar manufactures have a lot of stock right now, then prices are going dow really fast, just have a look in Spain or Italy!!!
