500v in PAT insulation test

Hi,

I am going to some PAT test. In the book it says if equipment is permanentlyconnected to a flex outlet, an insulation/continuity test should be carried out.

When i do insulation test, i should use 500v DC. Will this voltage damage the equipment, like a cooker or washing machine?
