Hi my name is dan, or dantheman; me and my dad who is a qualified electrician have fitted an outside light. The problem being is this i have done it in the following way i have connected the live and neutral from the ceiling rose in the kitchen to a two gang switch in the kitchen next to the back door. I have then connected from the two gang switch in the kitchen to the light outside with a live and neutral and all of this is earthed. Problem being is im not sure where to connect the live and earth to the switch which being where. I am only a young man i suppose you would say as i am 27 and just starting out with my wife and 1 year old in a new area with new surroundings etc and a new house what is the easiest solution and am i doing anything wrong?.

yes you are dooing something wrong. you are messing with somethning which is lethal that you know next to nothing about. get your dad round before you kill yourself.

my dad is a qualified electrician but he was made redundant. Problem being is me wife and inlaws dont get on. My wife is a bit older than me. Im finding it difficult to get through to her that we are not horrible people. Point being is I would like a good answer to my question as i am a good man and am having alot of problems at the moment or something.

seriously, dan. you need to get a qualified electrician in there. it's not a big job, no more than an hour's work, methinks. if you post your location, one of us may be near you willing to help, without charging over the odds.
