Hi guys,

We've got an opportunity to quote on our first 50kW job, we've got a couple of 10kW ground mounts under our belts so not completely green but have a few questions at this stage. The options are ground mount or on an existing barn which would be an E/W split.

Wondering who you use as a supplier for this size of system and what the preffered panels? We've had a price from segen for the schueco feild mount using the Yingli 245polys but its coming in pretty high given the price the competition has verbally mentioned. (which we don't think their quote will come anywhere near but we'll see).

Also on the EPC, would we be best keeping the farmhouse seperate to avoid the epc and having the PV on the New Supply only with the barns? I cant find any definate info on this, it seems as if its still up to us to argue our case with the FiT provider. That said even with an old stone farmhouse with 50kW of PV it might make a D as it is.

The other thing is the site of the array could be upto 150m away from the supply and the house, any advice on monitoring covering this distance?

Cheers,

e

I would recommend my favorite Jetion panels with SMA gear they can handel the distance with reperters etc ! Also you could contact Jetion in person with that size job, see if they would do a better deal .....

Break your quote down and include everything as the competitor probably isnt thus you will gain trust in what your saying. As long as you put a reasonable margin you should get it, if you dont well you need to think they obviously dont want quality...pay peanuts ....!

Regarding the EPC, if you get the EPC to include the solar it won't matter how poor the house is in terms of insulation the 50kWp of solar will give you a A rating

Cheers guys,

Have just had an email from our DNO saying that the supply upgrade needs its own planning consent and approval from DECC before we can go ahead! Has anyone heard of this before? We've had a couple of upgrades done previously, one of which was in a national park and we never had to do this...

Never heard of this before. Maybe ask the DNO what size system would not require an upgrade? You might find that a 40kWp system would be fine and this would be the better value option for your customer.

Energetic, If it is your first 50kW, you may be interested in the "Project Reports" we compile for customers (new or existing!). It's basically an improved 3D PVSol report with extras on it such as system schematics, and we personalise it with your logo and project details etc. The idea is it provides you with a good selling tool when you meet with your customer, and provides you with detail and paperwork that gives you an advantage over your competition.

It takes quite a lot of time to create these, so we do them for customers who either don't have PVSol, or don't have the time / capability / patience to compile something like this. It's free of charge, we just ask you buy some (or preferably all!) of the kit from us if you win the quote. No contracts, just a gentleman's agreement. If you want more info get in touch, or there is an example report you can download as a PDF on our web page Spitfire Projects

We also have people "in house" that can help with any difficulties you have with G59 applications, or other hoops the DNO may present.

Thanks and good luck with the job.

Just reading the thread, and think spitfire's offer is great! We use segen, Edmundsons, wf but after reading of your genuine offer (and good general input on the forum) I would rather do business with like minded people.
