Hi Worcester,

I wasn't being very clear!

I should have said I have two 50kWp opportunities:

1. For a new build so the loads of the building are as yet unknown. This is where the system could feed via 3 phase supply.

2. The second opportunity is for a 50kW system within a field and an 11 kV transformer situated on poles right next to the field. The property is around 200M away from the field.

Not sure of the approach to take with 2.

@solgen

There are two aspects here
1) Can the local network take the output. (Will they let you connect)
2) Who does what work. (If they do what works needs to be done to take the load - remember the network was never designed to be reverse fed..)

In some cases some of the work came be done by an ICP (the contestable work - they have to be approved) however you'll need to weigh up all the costs.

There is a good process / decision tree on page 29, and also there are definitions of what work is contestable and what isn't

Download the Guide to G59 connection (its free and 90 pages long, it's pretty clear, Engineering documents - Energy Networks Association just allow you self 1/2 a day to read it, then another 1/2 day to read it again!)

Next thing is to just get on the phone your DNO, they tend to be pretty helpful (contact details in above download)

Then when you're ready to go you'll need to buy the G59 document, it's only ÂŁ185 :) , from:
Revised version of G59/2-1 (2011) published on 12th April 2011 (it's a required document for MCS if you are doing that type of work)

Hi,

Were doing our firsy 45-50kW PV install and thanks for the previous info. As far I gather, you need to contact the DNO prior to install. Does anyone know how long the DNO take to make a decision? We got the next drop in tariffs coming up the end of October.

Cheers

Fergal

DNO have 6 weeks to give you an answer. But you're in luck - you can now register the install before it installed and then qualify for the full rate.

I believe it's up to 65 working days, though many will be quicker than that, not so lucky around here.
