Hello

Thanks in advance for your advise.

Thinking of these new (to me) wagoboxs:

527.2.1 talks of sealing penatration holes made for wiring to the same fire value as the construction passed through.

So as an example, if we removed a celing rose to fit a new light and cut a hole small enough to be covered by the new fitting but large enough to push a wago box into (saving taking up flooring above and due to the new fitting not having room to terminate) what would you use to fill that hole?

Kind Regards, David

Is this a downlighter your fitting? As the avergare room downlighter as a 63mm hole needed isn't that big enough to get a wago box through? The hole is filled by the luminaire.

If your talking about a normal surface type fitting, then by the regs your hole should be filled with the same type of fire resistant material as the plaster board, there are many products on the market, even fire proof silicone sealants if you wanted to use them

No it's not.

Thank you. I understand the reg - I just wondered what you all used to fill it.

Thanks you for your reply.

Kindest Regards, David

As you know David even the common ceiling rose, the cables coming through the ceiling and terminating into them, the holes made are suppose to be sealed, how many do in fact do that.

If you remove a light and install a different design and have small holes left exposed, we all know what the majority of sparks do regarding these don't we. In the case you have highlighted where you may have a hole of considerable size you may want to go down the road of cutting out a piece of the ceiling plaster board between the joists and fitting a new piece then make good.

With the advent of Wagos and peoples interpretation of them not having to be accessible then this is a good question. I still don't class them as non accessible until the BS 7671-2008 amendment tells me they are not and so only use them as an accessible connection.
