Hi

I'm on the verge of buying a 58 Plate Vauxhall Astra van. Do any of you own one, and more importantly has anyone heard of problems/manufacturing problems with them?

Sorry if this wrong forum!

Thanks in advance

Rich

As long as it's not the 1.9CDTI 150BHP model then they are pretty reliable from what I've heard.

A friend has the above model on 08 plate and has replaced near enough every part on the dam thing.

ive had one as a company van, and one of the other lads has one now, and he loves it. we had/he has the 1.3cdti version, and they are good little vans. its hard to try and find anything in them as they are so small, and it has a big turbo lag, before you get any power.

i agre lenny. ive got a 1.7cdti astra estate, and i love it. its got more than enough power, but there again, ive never driven it fully loaded up, like you would if it was a van.

1.7 here to, not a van but the estate. Its a 54 plate and done 143k. The first thing went wrong with it 3 weeks back, the top radiator hose clip had rusted away making a small hole in the hose.

Apart from that nothing else. The only dodgy thing on it is the fuel gauge, it has a mind of its own, but always fill u p before the light comes on and your right!

We brought 2 identical even down to the hands free kits/ 1.9 cdti vans on 58 plates Jan in 09.
We asked for the top of the range but latter found that this would have been the ones with a red cdti badge and 150 bhp instead of the , i think 120 bhp that we got.
If you look at one my past posts in ( another van post ) you will see the problems i have had .
A word of warning on the 58 plates !
When the gear box as good as dropped out the bottom at around 30.000 , when i asked why the mechanic said the back end main bearing had failed and then dropped i think it was the main shaft into the other gears which pretty much blow the box to bits .
The most worrying thing was though when i asked why he said it was quite common as there had been a cock up on the production line on some of 58 plate vehicles that had meant they received no oil in the gear box !!!
So if you can just check it out first !

I've got the new shape astra van 1.7, had no problems yet. Apart from someone crashing into both front wings (on separate occasions). They're nippy, but unless you like climbing over everything to get to the front of the van to find something then I wouldn't really recommend them. Im hoping to sell mine within the next year and get a caddy van.

That sounds worrying!

Any Idea how I would check this? I'm off to look at it on saterday.

Thanks, Rich

gear box probs, electrical probs, engine sensor probs, going into safe mode while in the fast lane, they drop to 50 mph very very quick, all common probs, crawling into the back to get gear a nightmare..id prefer a transit connect..

No sorry Rich , we just took the other one strait in to the dealer to check so i don't know how they did it ?

How do you guys manage with smaller car based vans compared to something like a transit? How do you manage to fit everything in?

Mine is still storming on....

Although, it has had a new inlet manifold and two egr valves, all done under warranty.

Currently at around 43mpg with normal driving with the odd pedal mash.

They are no longer producing the SE150 and replacing it with a 1.7 125bhp.

Need to get my new one before they run out!!

Had a 57 plate 1.3cdti sportive van up until a few months ago..... owned it for the last 4 years

Also had gearbox go ---- up at 30,000, still under warranty so all sorted - was common fault though.

Turbo lag little bit of annoying - put your foot down and nothing happens.

Good little runner, sadly out grew it - so now have something bigger.
