Hi folks I qualified a couple of years a go but am unable to work on a regular basis due to ill health.

we are doing an extension which I will be doing the wiring and I have manage to get my hands on some 2.5mm 6242bh Lsf cable cheap.

Having never used this type of cable before is it suitable for a standard ring main and will it get approval from building regs or am I just better sticking to the 6242y

cheers

jon

nothing wrong with using that cable as long as it's stamped basec, and comes as brown/blue. you'll probably find it harder th strip than 6242y.

many thanks for that but i cannot see basec on the cable or drum. it is the new colours however the brand in Draka photos below

@OP. the basec is not always easy to see. it's not printed, it's stamped. look closely.

hi folks just checked the cable and yes it does have the basec printed on the cable it was just on the inside.

Cost was ÂŁ50.00 for a 100m roll of this and 90 meters on 6243y left over from a job

Any tips on how best to strip it having not used it before

cheers

jon

the problem is the outer sheath. if you try stripping it by using side cutters to pull the cpc, chances are it'll snap and you'll clout yourself in the gob. score down the centre with a stanley knife first.

esp. if you have a rotary stripper. trhe ones that cut the sheath straight without damaging the conductors' insulation.
