Hi Guys,
Just been to price a domestic installation where we can fit 9.75kWp system,
can anyone advise on whats involved in the G59 Process or who i can contact to discuss?

Thanks.

single phase, a domestic property, plus a 4kWp system on the property next door too, (customer owns both properties)

You will need to send in , ENA Document - Connection of generation plant to distribution networks .
But this does depend on your DNO !

DNO is SPEnergy networks, i hear they are a pain in the rear for G59 Applications.
As far as i understand i must put in a G59 application prior to install listing G59 protection settings on the inverter,
and await reply as to whether any additional equipment (G59 switch gear, G59 Testing ect) is needed?

thanks

Make sure you know what the DNO are after before you sign up your customer , or you may be looking at a tap change or further work that your costumer or yourself will be paying for extra !
I had lunch the other day with one of our locall DNO system planners and they mentioned in conversation that a 10 kw single phase hook up is their least liked system of all !

Hope it goes well , do keep us informed .

Just at the quotation stage at the moment, so will keep you informed. its on a new build (no more than 5 years) so hopefullythe lines will be adequate.
will keep you informed.

Just out of interest what G59 inverter are you using? I have only come across G83 single phase inverters.

Im Not too sure to be honest Greg, im still researching the G59 stuff. i Phoned a guy who supplies G59 relay boxes, and he said i shouldn't need one as the inverter may satisfy G59/2 protection settings, so have assumed i could find one somewhere.

I will be putting my quotation together tomorrow, writing lots of words to cover my ---, and provisional costs for :
£1500 for G59 relay box,
£600 for someone with G59 test equipment to come test the G59 stuff
£600 to pay DNO for a witness to watch the testing & Commissioning.
possible another £500 for the extra paperwork & Organising.

And write something about allowing 45Days for DNO response before installation begins.

Anything else you guys can think of?
Cheers

I can not impress enough the need to get confirmation from the DNO first as to what is needed to be allowed to connect to their network before you are singed into a contract , if it goes badly your contingency budget you have allowed for is chicken feed as to what it could be !
If you want another company for the G59 relay , we use a good one with the relay you may need on the shelf and they will come out for the witness test for i think around the price you have quoted for the relay alone.
You would have to check it out , but we have found them to be a very helpful bunch indeed .

Maybe put 60 days for DNO but stress this a worst case senario as my DNO state 6-8weeks for a g59 reply. Rest looks right to me. Let us know how you come on using a g83 inverter and relay box for g59 as this would help me out a bit.

Bee onto a supply company that were very helpful, they suggested i can use several G83 inverters that will allow me to connect 10kWp onto a single phase supply.
Not too sure how this would work, perhaps 3 x inverters each with a 3.25kWp system, (total 9.75kWp) each producing 16A, each having own spare fuse-way in DB?

what do you guys think?
