Hello, I have a 96 Camry - previously it started fine but the engine ran rough and when I scanned it it said there was a misfire in cylinder 4 (P0304). I changed the spark plugs (the old ones were all black with carbon) but no obvious improvement in the misfire. I was getting around to look into this in more detail when I went to start the car and.. nothing..

The dash lights come on. No crank... The odd thing is the door ajar light comes on and stays on flashing and making a 'tick-tock' noise. This stays on until I play about with the central locking or even open and close the hood, then it will switch off.

Can anyone tell me what they think could be going on here please? I have no idea. I did check the fuses and they look ok. Battery is new and I just recharged it. I didn't test the starter yet. Could it be an immobilizer problem? Looking at my drivers manual I can't see that it has an immobilizer...

Thanks for any advice members can give me...

Are you saying that it wants to try to start or turning the switch on and nothing?

Hi Megawatt - thanks for your reply. I turned the switch and nothing happened. But, this evening the same thing happened and I pressed some buttons on the aftermarket fob I have and the door ajar light went off and the car started. I think it must be some kind of immobilizer.

Sorted now - thanks
