Hi,
My name is Akbar and I am from Pakistan. I am an amateur who loves to do simple electrical DIY at home. So please bear with my non-technical lingo.

Question:
I want to add an LED at the red-circled spot, indicating the ON position of the switch in this switch/socket circuit.

Please tell me what do I need (beside LED) and how can I make it work.
If I have failed to mention something please let me know.
I am waiting for your replies...

that circled hole is for fixing screw. you will need to drill another hole. better with a neon and resistor than a LED.

so for a LED, you need to step down the voltage and rectify to dc. LED requiers 2V dc. better with neon ( 90V) with a resistor.

Here's a basic circuit but you'd be better buying a complete indicator lamp and dismantling to fit it in your socket.

*Edit* I don't have time to do the current calcs but that resistor I drew as 2.7Kohms might need to be a higher value, maybe try 4.2Kohms to start with and if it's a bit dim drop it 500ohms at a time. Just watch the temperature of the LED, if you go too low the current will be too high any you'll get thermal runaway.

Your reply is really helpful but I'm new to such projects, can you please specify the exact ratings/values for the capacitor, resistor and diode.

Too earliy in the morning.... I didnt spot Marvo's link. (Post 9) Someone else likes CPC.
