Hi,

I would just like your views if possible chaps. We all now about the importance of PEB being in place, now is it correct that to the 17th Edition we don't have to install PEB to the incoming water service if the incoming pipe is plastic, regardless of the material of the pipes inside the property (copper/plastic)?

The regs are a bit ambiguous at the best of times, my thoughts were if it was plastic coming in and plastic within the property (pipes) then no PEB was req'd to the water service, however if it was plastic coming in and part plastic + part metal pipes within the property it would require PEB/SEB so potentials are equalised. Also if it was a metal incoming water service it was done automatically (PEB).

I have had a scour through the regs and couldn't find the reg relating that PEB cann be omitted for the above, if anyone can clear this up and locate the reg I would be grateful.

Cheers, LEO.

Have a look at section 4.4, pg.29 of the OSG. No requirement to bond services where the incoming pipework is plastic if it can be shown that any metallic pipework connected thereafter is not introducing earth potential. If in doubt, the metallic pipework should be bonded.

I believe the niceic covered this in wiring matters,i do not have a link, but jason does i think, although i do it regardless of plastic or not, habit i suppose, but one good thing is dont have to run 4mm around bathrooms anymore with horrible earth clamps all over.
