Did a daft thing last week, i connected my Di-log 9083p multifunction meter to a live circuit and turned the knob to continuity instead of earth loop- sure enough the screen said "FUSE" and i had blown the internal fuse. Trouble is- i get paid per test and this was early in the day, so i bridged the spent fuse with a single strand of copper from some 0.75mm flex and carried on. Its risky but i gotta keep earning eh?

Sure enough (i think you can all guess where this is going....) later in the day i did again, and this time it blew the copper strand. But when i replaced it, the meter still says "FUSE". I asssume i have blown something internal now, but having had a quick look inside, there are no other fuses i can see- and no blackened or burnt components either, but i'm no electronics expert.

So has anyone else done this and where did you have it repaired (and how much??????)

Not looking good!, the fuses in meters are usually quick rupture in order to protect electronics, fitting wire will effectively allow the damaging voltage to exist much longer thus damaging the electronics, i see your frustration and must admit ive done it myself but not twice!!! usually once is a big enough reminder, i suggest if it cant be repaired that you get a meter that has voltage warning monitors that wont allow the test to be carried out until the power is removed.

Iv got 2 mfts 1 mine 1 works
works used foor "lead tests" ie those requiring test leads as opposed to plug top
mine used for plug top tests
saves having to change leads around ect
as for repair test meter over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> are both sponsers and members of forum giving discount to members they have repair service and would probably be best to advise
as it is Im trying to get my gaffer to obtain me a spare meter as like you if I dont do tests Im not payed and having a spare meter would be a god send

Hi gmchris, sorry to hear about your problem! By all means, we'd be pleased to help you out. We can quote for the repair, and ideally, a re-calibration of your multi function tester.

As a forum member, we'd obviously still offer you the 5% discount from the price of repair. Give us a call on 01132 489 966, and we can arrange for booking your tester in. Cheers

I have done the same thing in my robin kts1620 It needs a new relay to get it working but it was cheeper to buy a new fluke insulation continuity tester then pay to get fixed but i do prefer the old robin as you can lock the test button down you can not on the fluke
